Mythical Peloponnese full of taste and flavour

How to distinguish the original black olives from colored ones? Does the eggplant have to be bitter? And why do you have to talk with the products? That what Teo Vafidis tought journalists during a meeting with tasty food and culture of the Mythical Peloponnese.

Administrative authorities of the Peloponnese, a large peninsula in the south of Greece wants to catch the interest of Polish tourists in this beautiful and interesting region of Hellas. Therefore, they have organized gala dinner combined with a presentation on the Peloponnese in Sfera restaurant in Warsaw. During the cold evening guests were warmed up with the stories about the region and sunny travel films promoting region. But the most warming were dishes served by well-known in Poland chef and television personality, Teo Vafidis.

During the show guests watched the preparation of traditional dishes straight from the Peloponnese with the best products brought from Greece – eggplant, kalamata olives and excellent olive, chestnut, spruce honey, shrimps, octopus, and feta cheese (original feta is made from sheep’s milk – 60%, and 40% goat). Teo as every true Greek loves good food and is very serious about it. – Eggplant must have a bitter taste, so why kill the taste? Who does not like the bitterness of eggplant, let him eat zucchini! He told the audience how to distinguish real black olives from dyed ones. If the color is the same – they are artificial. Natural have different color intensity. He also showed how to bake chestnuts, prepare octopus and what does fresh shrimps say to good cook. He was accompanied and helped by Dina Nikalaku from the Peloponnese tourism authority.

During the evening journalists have tried octopus carpaccio with vegetables and parsley sauce, and for an appetizer kalamata olives, tzatziki, pepperoni peppers and pasta with eggplant. For this warm appetizer: fried feta served with fig jam and as a main dish roasted lamb with okra, fried potatoes and Greek salad. And for the dessert – chestnut parfait served with orange and greek coffee  heated in the hot sand.

On the Peloponnese you can fly directly from Poland at the airport in Kalamata, last year six thousand Polish tourists came to the peninsula that way. During the special evening governor of Peloponnese, Peryklis Madas, spoke about the region and presented the brand Magic Peloponnese – created two years ago and promoted around the world. He also presented a movie, recognized as the the best presentation of tourism in Europe on recent ITB travel fairs in Berlin for.
